Hello everyone, me and my family have been in a kind of long stressful and confusing predicament with the start up visa for about a while now and i felt the need to post about it on here if anyone here has any sort of information, discussions or just overall support or advice that could be of any sort of help to me right now. my family had applied for the start up visa pr in July 2021, and the official filing started in July 2022 which then proceeded with us being asked to do our first medical in December 2023 then a second one December 2024 and then our pre arrival came out in march 2025, and now in January 2026 it has been nothing but radio silence from them since then, which is definitely frustrating and confusing especially because firstly our application was supposed to take only about 3 and a half years and secondly our pre arrival has come which of course i know doesn't guarantee immediate approval but for over 10 months now we haven't heard anything at all, and it was expected/estimated for it to have come out around late last year and our most recent medical expired around like first week December 2025, with the other people's own on the team expiring around late November 2025. this entire process has really taken a major toll on me and everyone in my family's mental health and the silence even whilst basically expecting to be near or already approved by now has been really draining, I'm really hoping once again anyone here can give any support, advice or information i would really really appreciate anything right now, thank you so much and God bless.

Because the program has been paused the timelines are now around 10 years. If you read through Canada's immigration plan for 2026-8, there are only 500 to be approved each year and this includes the self employment program too. Depending on how many applications are before you to be reviewed expect years. Who knows you may get lucky. You can check current times in the link.

Thanks for the reply and i get what ur saying but i really dont think all of that 10 year stuff and the rest applies to my file, especially because i have already gotten pre arrival and our recent medical passed about a month ago without them asking for renewal which i have heard means that they have basically done all the reviewing they need and its in its final stage right now so all of the long processing and all, my file seems to be ahead of all which is what makes this whole thing even morw confusing and frustrating. i have had pre arrival for over 10 months now

Pre-arrival letter is a generic letter that goes out to everyone who has a PR application underway, can go out very early in the process and doesn't mean PR approval. It is just a letter to prepare to go to Canada at some point.

You seem to be on top of things so hopefully approved soon since you say you are in the final stage.

There are many people with Pre arrival letter since early 2024 and still waiting. So you’re not in front of everyone. Hundreds of people in the same situation. And with the recent changes wouldn’t be strange if they ask you for more information about your business progress and incubator, even if you have received Pre Arrival letter. That letter doesn’t guarantee PR at all.
