I'm glad someone brought up the plastic sleeves. I am sorting out the documents right now to send them off this week (fingers crossed!) and the plastic sleeves seem to be really neat. I am thinking to use plastic sleeves for the main forms and IDs and degrees etc, and the big metal paper clips for the proof of relationship documents. I hope they won't mind. I agree with Fencesitter that it's much neater this way, especially since I can put a table of content on top of the documents bag, so they'll know where to find which document. The package is looking rather big right now. :-)

How do you know that?

Because she's a trained, registered, certified, practicing immigration consultant. What rjessome says is from first hand experience dealing with CIC, it pays to pay attention to what she says (believe me, I know!).

Ah ha! So plastic sleeves should make it easy, as all they need to do is take the documents out of the sleeves. No need to waste time removing paperclips or staples. I think this is the best way to go....

A staple is not going to result in a refusal. But if you want to cause less hassle to the person deciding your fate, I'd do what they instruct. When a file gets to CIC all staples, folders, dividers, clips, etc. are removed. Then it is reorganized (if necessary) and a hole is punched through the upper left hand corner of all of the papers and a big clip put through to hold all of file together. That's why they ask for no staples because of the punch.

so if they do that, they might not be happy with the plastic folder?

Yeah lilizinha, I'm almost sure Fencesitter was being sarcastic...how is it easier to take something out of a plastic sleeve than to take away a paperclip?

Actually, I wasn't being sarcastic (but indirectly, yes...it's crazy that CIC specifies not to use clips or staples when this is normal in the real world!).

Consider: 10 paperclips vs 10 documents in a sleeve...take documents out of sleeve (1 sec)...take off 10 paperclips (much longer than 1 sec). But in reality, I really never imagined I would be saying such things, as both are easy to do...but we're talking about CIC, so I prefer to make it as easy as possible!!

I never read anywhere that CIC bans staples. I did read somewhere that they suggest using a paper clip. Either way, we will all get our visas.
