Did you apply for an open work permit for her or just a visit visa? If you qualify for PR under a PNP program you could apply for PR for her too.

I am not sure which form it is but as a full time student, your spouse can get an open work permit and as a skilled worker, your spouse can get an open work permit so I assume the same goes for post-grad. Call CIC and ask at 1 888 242‑2100 I think you have to go through the first couple of menus and then you can press 0 and get a person. You can also try to find an immigrant or newcomers centre where you live. They might be able to help you.

You can call your wife as Yor dependant. From your explaination above I understand your wife was an applicant & not you. If you are working and earn $30,000. you are responsible for supporting your wife financially when she arrives. As a sponsor, you must make sure your spouse or relative does not need to seek financial assistance from the government. This will also depend upon your own immigration status.
Please read through

Another advice....It is safer to read official information about Canadian Immigration available at various official web sites. Please note that you may get cofused by spoon feeding. Its in your best interest to be clear, before you apply for immigration.

The objective of this forum is to empower people. Partcipants are not necessarily law experts, lawyers or immigration specialist. After discussions do visit www.cic.gc.ca. Always depend upon first hand /origional information that can be obtained from Canadian Embassies/High commissions and other CIC offices in all countries.

In case of doubt consult a Barrister/Lawyer, there are many in Canada and can render free telephone advice. good luck

He can not sponsor his wife as a dependant because he is not PR yet. When he applies for PR, he can include her in his application.

Working temporarily in Canada
Work permits
Can my spouse or common-law partner and dependent children come with me to Canada?

Your spouse or common-law partner and children can come with you to Canada or visit you in Canada, but they must meet all the requirements for temporary residents to Canada: they must satisfy an officer that they will only stay in Canada temporarily, and they may have to prove that they have no criminal record. If your spouse or common-law partner and children need temporary resident visas, they must also meet all the conditions for obtaining those visas.

If you, your spouse or common-law partner and children all apply together, you do not have to fill out a separate application form for each individual: list their names and the other necessary information about them in the appropriate space on your application. If you need more space, attach a separate piece of paper and indicate the number and letter of the question you are answering.

If your spouse or common-law partner and children all apply separately, they must each fill out an application form.

If your family members want to follow you to Canada later, they must each fill out a separate application form.

Important: You may have to provide a marriage certificate and birth certificates for any accompanying family members. If you are in a common-law relationship and your common-law partner will be accompanying you to Canada, you may have to complete the form, Statutory Declaration of Common-Law Union, and provide the evidence listed in it to support your relationship.

Absolutely right. People should do their own investigation. For example on this thread, a certain user told the original poster who is on a work permit that he could sponsor his wife and posted a link for sponsorship. When you go to this link, you will right away see that you need to be a citizen or PR to sponsor a spouse. A person who is on a work permit may apply for TRV and open work permit for their spouse but this is not the same as sponsorship.
