hey guys, i recently got my visa and will be flying nesxt month to toronto...i was wondering, when is the right time to come back to my country and get married? i'm from india and now that i have my visa, they want me to get married soon..can i stay for like 2-3 months and come back to get married?? do i have to be employed?? how long is the processing???

You can come back and get married after 2-3 months but you will have to return to Canada again to sponsor your spouse. The processing time for spouses through India is not too long. Average about 4 months. You don't have to show income to sponsor a spouse but they could ask you how you plan to support yourselves. They might be suspicious if you marry very soon after getting your PR. They may ask if you had already lived with your spouse prior to getting married and if you might have qualified as a common law.

Hello Leon...thanks for the reply...do you think they'll actually think that way...cos in India, these kinda relationships are taboo well at least in punjab...plus i'm 30 years old..and my folks want me married by december...

Yes, I actually heard about a couple that had to prove that they did not live together before they married because the man got married shortly after landing as a PR. I suppose immigration has leeway for different cultures. The visa office in New Delhi might see this all the time and think it's no problem at all.

You can be away for 2 months or 2 years..duration is only one factor, what is important is for you to be able to prove how genuine your relationship is.

what do you suggest then, should i wait 6 months? a year??

I think 4-6 months would be better than 2 or 3.
