Hi everyone, My wife is a Candadian citizen, we have been living together for approximatly 8 years now and married for 5. We have a 3 year old son. My wife and I would like to move over to Canada and have the paper work filled out ready to send off but I'm a little worried by the amount of interest that the forms seem to have in current employment. We can't get employed until we go to Canada and it seems that my wife can't sponsor me without emplyment... is this correct? and if so is there any way around it?

Thanks

Steve

Your wife does not need to meet a specific income requirement to be eligible to sponsor you, nor does she have to be employed. The interest i your current and past employment status, both sponsor and spouse, is due to the responsibilities in the sponsorship agreement: the sponsor must provide the necessities of life so that the spouse does not need government assistance, and the spouse should be capable of becoming self-sufficient in Canada.

The financial requirements for spousal sponsorship are to not be in receipt of government assistance except in the case of disability and not to be an undischarged bankrupt. As long as these situations do not apply, your wife will be eligible to sponsor you.

Your wife does not need a job or any income to sponsor you.
The forms ask for her employment history, job details, and income tax details, so she must supply these, but even if she currently has no job, she is allowed to sponsor her husband.
The visa officer will want to know how the two of you will support yourselves when you come to Canada, so proof of any savings and investments is good. Your wife will also have to prove that she will go back to Canada, so proof of a job search or actual job offer is one thing that will help.
