I am a naturalized Canadian and became a Canadian Citizen over 20 years ago and has been living overseas for the last 15 years. I would like to apply to sponsor my wife as I plan to move back now but in one of the sponsorship forms - IMM5540, I need to put down the date when I became a permanent resident. I forgot the date and only recall it was around 25 years ago. Do you think not getting the exact date will cause delay/issues with my application. Form IMM1344 also asked about the date I became a Canadian Citizen. Which I also do not have the exact date. Similarily, do you think it is very important to enter the correct date I became a Canadian Citizen. Do you know how and where can I quickly get these dates from the Government so I can complete the forms and send in the application? I asked for a search for Citizenship records but the average waiting time is 10 months and that is too long for me.

many thanks

Hello!
I'm also in the process of sponsoring my husband and when I was filling out the forms I realized I did not know when I had become a landed inmigrant over 20 years ago... I called Immigration Canada and they looked me up in the system. They will provide you the date on the spot. Don't worry.
Good luck!

Thanks chezvelo. Could you pass on the number you called ? I called 1-888-242-2100 but the recording says call cannot be completed as dialed. Did you call from inside Canada ?

I could only call from Canada. It was the general Canada Immigration number, which I googled. Sorry, I dont have it with me. And yes, it was a 1800 type number.
