Hello Friends. I'm a PR holder in Canada and would like to bring my wife & child to Canada.

I'm preparing the application for Sponsorship. But my Wife's Passport is valid till Nov 2015. Can I apply now with that now and renew passport later? Or, do I have to get the passport renewed first?

Thanks in advance.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but you could submit the application now and then once they process your SA and your wifes part of the application is forwarded to the relevant office for processing you could send the updated passport details to this office once you have them.

However, might be worthwhile checking how long a new passport would take if you aren't going to be sending the application for a while.

I applied in December 2014 and my passport was going to expire August 2015.

The vo aboard "recommended" to me that I renew my passport before they issued my COPR so that it would be valid longer, which I did.

So there is no issue submitting the application now.

I would renew it asap after submitting the application and submit it to the VO abroad before they ask for it so you don't waste additional processing times.

CoPR expiry is based on the expiry date of the medical exam, not the passport.

It is based of the medical exam expiry and passport expiry. Even if you have a medical exam that is good for 10 more months, but a passport that expires in 2 months then your COPR will only have a validity date of when the passport expires.

Since the COPR has your passport number on it they will not issue it longer then your passport is valid for. This was explained in detail when my VO "suggested" I renew my passport and that was the exact reason they gave.

You're right. I should have said that the CoPR is valid for the remainder of the Medical results validity or the applicant's passport expiry date...whichever expires sooner.

Sorry about that.

Oh great info on this one. My husband will apply for my spousal sponsorship, this coming January 2016. My passport validity will be until October 2016. I will follow your advice to renew passport after I submitted :)
Was there any rejection for passport like these that are already expired or about to expire?

greetings everyone

so iam sponsering my spouse from outside of canada and i have questions regarding my spouse forms. The form is Additional Family Information. The question is regarding Section A where it is asking me to write all names in english and in my native language, so does that mean under Name i have to write the name twice in both language?
