I am a protected person living in Canada with my two children. Two years ago, I applied to include my spouse, who is living outside Canada. Last year, I received a letter asking me to resubmit forms IMM 0008, IMM 5669, and IMM 5406, but I did not submit them. This year, I received another letter from the Canadian embassy outside Canada, requesting the same forms.

My questions are:
  1. For form IMM 0008, should I complete the form with my own information as the Principal Applicant since I am the protected person in Canada, or should I complete it with my spouse’s information since my spouse is outside Canada?
  2. Where should I submit the completed forms? I do not see an option to upload these documents in my GCKey account. Should I submit them through the IRCC Webform, or should I send them directly to the visa office or embassy mentioned in the letter?

you spouse need to fill those forms.
you are given instruction on the letter how and where can be submitted. since your spouse application is not linked to GCkey so use Webform to submit forms.

Regarding IMM 0008, the Principal Applicant should still be myself in Canada, as the person being sponsored. My spouse (outside Canada) and children who are are listed as my dependants.

When completing IMM 0008, under "Program under which you are applying," What do we select the following;
1. Program under which you are applying:
1. Family
2. Economy
3. Refugee
4. other and
Category Under which you are applying:
1. In Canada Refugee Claim
2. In Canada Protected Person
3. Outside Canada Refugee

My question is Dependant Spouse who is outside Canada can be signed IMM0008 form as Principal Applicant already singed and submitted while PR applied.
More response would be welcome. Tks

You mentioned that you recently sent those documents. Are the documents you are referring to the same forms that IRCC has now requested, or are they different documents?

No, your spouse will be the main applicant on the IMM 0008 form. you need to complete the form on behalf of your spouse using your spouse’s information as the principal applicant.
this is usually mentioned in the request letter. for example:
“As a family member residing outside of Canada, you are required to submit this form. All your dependents must be listed on the form whether they will be accompanying you to Canada or not.”

>> Refugee / In-Canada Protected (that's what i selected for my spouse)

even though you already included your spouse’s information when you originally applied for PR in Canada, IRCC still requires your spouse to submit their own updated IMM 0008 as the principal applicant for overseas processing.

You mentioned that you recently sent those documents. Are the documents you are referring to the same forms that IRCC has now requested, or are they different documents?
pretty much same forms and other documents like, marriage certificate, proof of relationship, birth certificate, copies of passport, biometric fee.

IMM 0008 Generic Form for overseas spouse dependant
1. Program under which you are applying: REFUGEES (this is for Spouse who is outside Canada)
Category Under which you are applying: In Canada Protected Person
as your instruction

Now, there is question is
#3. How Many Family Members, including you, are in this application?
Can I add as my principal applicant as a DEPENDANT on my IMM 0008 application (spouse) along with my 2 kids on this application?

no, you should not add the principal applicant in Canada as a dependant on your overseas spouse’s IMM 0008.
for the overseas spouse’s IMM 0008 the spouse outside Canada is the “Principal Applicant” on that form, only accompanying dependants should be counted and added under the application.

Principal Applicant(overseas Spouse) + Number of Kids(with overseas spouse); if you have 2 kids then total family members in the application would be 3

add all kids information on DEPENDENT SECTION

Thank you for the post.

My spouse received the letter with a G number shortly after I received the AOR. She was requested to provide these documents (civil status, marriage certificate, etc., too.

She signed the Use of Representative form IMM 5476e, and I sent the documents on her behalf.

I sent an explanatory letter where I indicated that there were no changes to the information contained in these forms IMM008, Background Declaration IMM5669, Additional Family Information IMM5406 and IMM5562 (travels) from the time when I submitted my PR application back in August 2025.

Few days later, I received a confirmation of receipt from IRCC:

We acknowledge receipt of the documents. Please note, for technical reasons, they may not be visible in your online account. Rest assured that your supporting documents are indeed added and available for officer review.
  • If your enquiry was solely to provide documents, please note this is the only response you will receive.
  • If your enquiry included additional questions in addition to the documents, they will be addressed separately, as soon as possible.

Reading this posts and the comments, I am really now confused.

Does my spouse really need to re-fill and re-submit all of these forms again?
Does she have to re-submit all of this also for all our children who are above 18 years?

My understanding is that this is only if there is any update or change in information from the time I, the principal applicant, submitted the PR application.

Form IMM008 and the other forms really take a long time, and filling these all is meaningless because I have already done that!!

If you want to act as your spouse’s representative, you must complete and submit the Use of a Representative form (IMM 5476).
If you do not want to be your spouse’s representative, or if you already have access to your spouse’s email and can manage the communication directly, then you do not need to submit this form.

Tell us about the principal applicant

Who is name to be type either Principal applicant who is in Canada or Spouse who is outside Canada.

3. *

your spouse is the Principle applicant so you need to write spouse's details(full name, DOB etc.)
4. * What did apply for? (required)
Refugees or Permanent Residence

5. *
What application did you submit? (required)
Refugee PR or Inside Canada Spouse partner / Outside Canada Spouse Partner

i was also confused about those questions, so i selected: PR > Outside Canada (Spouse/Partner).

in the message section, i explained that i answered the questions based on my best understanding. you can do the same, or you can write a short explanation letter and attach it with the webform.

Hello Everyone,

I hope that you are doing great...

I have few questions about filling the forms for my wife and children. I am a protected person who applied for PR. My wife and children are outside Canada.

My wife received an email last month with a checklist. In the checklist, she has to fill Forms 008, 5669, 5406, 5662 and 5476 (for me to be her representative). I initially thought that no need to fill them, because I already did when I submitted the PR application. However, I have recently learned that these forms should indeed be filled again.

I have already submitted the form 5476 (use of representative) after she and I signed and dated it.

My questions:

1. Can I fill and sign these forms on her behalf (I am her representative now as per form 4576)

2. For signing the forms, what to do? The forms do not allow typig the name and date. Should these forms be printed, signed and scanned? Alternatively, can I print the form to a PDF then edit it using a pdf editor to put name and date?

3. For Form 008, should I validate it and generate the barcode? How to sign it after that? Print it on paper, sign and scan? O again print it to pdf and enter name and date using a pdf editor?

4. I have kids who are above 18, should I fill 008 for them or it is only required for my wife? Do I need to fill forms 5669, 5406, 5662 and 5476 (use of representative) for each of them?

5. I have already submitted the supporting documents with the checklist but without the above forms. Should I re-submit everything again along with the forms?

6. If it is not possible to submit everything using one webform, can I use 2 or more webforms to upload all these documents?

Appreciate you help.

Thank you...

1. Primary Applicant(your spouse) must sing the form and children above 18 also must sign their own form.
2. yes you can print to PDF and sign with PDF editor.
3. yes you must validate your form. validate every time you edit the form before closing it.
4. usually not separate unless instructed by IRCC. there is DEPENDENT section at the bottom of the form 0008 form. you need to fill there.
5. if you have already submitted then you do not have to resubmit again just submit remaining forms and docs but you have to write a letter of explanation.
6. you can use multiple webforms to submit forms and docs. again latter of explanation will help.
