Hi guys!!

Kindly advice here..

I am on PR Landed on June'19. During my express entry application I declared spouse and kid as non accompanying. Now, when can I apply for sponsorship for my spouse and kid. Is there any time I need to wait before I apply. Also, do we need a job before we apply? Your feedback would be highly appreciated. Thanks

You can apply immediately. No - you don't need to have a job before applying (however you cannot be on social assistance). You must be living in Canada at the time you apply and continue living in Canada while the application is processed.

Great thanks. Is OSAP part of social assistance? It is Ontario student scheme funding for students. Any idea? Also, going out of Canada for short vacation is fine during application process?

OSAP is not classified as social assistance.

Yes - you can leave for short trips (e.g. 2-3 weeks). Recommend you don't do this too often or IRCC may say you are no longer living in Canada.

You still have to show how you will support your family so you will have to show sufficient savings or that you are working while attending school.

Hello canuck78,

I am also having a similar case and will be sponsoring my wife and son before getting a job in Canada. How much funds you think should be enough for a family of 3, so that spousal sponsorship application goes through.

thanks a lot

There is no exact amount. What would be best is when you find a job is to update your file via webform.
