Hello,

I am currently residing in Montreal. I have a Full Time Job of Software Developer and Open Work Permit valid till August-2017.

My fiancee is currently in India. I am planning to go India around April-2015 and do the court Marriage. Then, around November-2015, I am planning to go back and bring my spouse along with me.

I am confused over which visa category should I call my spouse. Should she apply for:

1. TRV from India and apply for OWP after she comes here.
2. Or, should she directly apply for OWP and get TRV along with it?

Senior Member, please advice me. What is the processing time for each case and which option is safest?

Senior Member, please provide your expert guidance over this.

Thank you.

My suggestion is to apply her OWP which should take care of the TRV. I believe TRV is faster than OWP application.

TRV: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/temp/visitors.asp#asia
WP: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/temp/workers.asp#asia

Good luck! :)

Not sure about OWP but TRV(Visitor visa) will take you one-two weeks max in majority of the cases. I got my visa in 10 days.
I heard that OWP submitted from outside canada will take about 3-4 months. However not sure.

Hi,

Sorry for bumping this thread, but I am facing the same issue. I am applying for a student visa to do my MBA and I am thinking of applying for an OWP for my wife at the same time. I am worried if this might set off some alarms and get us rejected. Is it better to just apply for a student visa for myself first and then apply for an OWP for my wife later?

Thanks for your help.

For spouses of people who are already in Canada - always apply OWP - chances of a Visitor permit approval is very meager
A VO usually quotes homeland ties while rejecting
