Spousal sponsorship while short on physical presence

Hi,

I want to apply for spousal sponsorship, but currently I am not yet meeting my physical presence test of 2out of last 5yrs. Will it cause a problem if I apply for spousal sponsorship or as long as I do not try to renew my PR I will be ok ?

It's not necessary to renew the permanent residence, but the PR card only. As soon you are an Resident Permanent, you might be a sponsor, except if you were sponsored for someone in the last 5 years.

Do you mean you are not compliant with your RO? When did you get PR and how much time have you spent in Canada during the past 5 years. If not compliant any interaction with IRCc could bring attention to this.
