Pre-Assessed..
can anyone please help with this:

I WAS ON SOCIAL ASSISTANCE AND I STOPPED RECEIVING IN FEBRUARY 2014, I STARTED WORKING IN APRIL 2014 AND LATER APPLIED TO SPONSOR MY WIFE IN JULY 2014.
DOES THE SOCIAL ASSISTANCE I HAVE TAKEN IN THE PAST AFFECT THE APPLICATION.

we already had a seven months old baby together

it may IF you don't supply substantial proof from your province you were actually taken off the list. Sponsors who have previously been on welfare have been rejected because technically a person can work AND still receive benefits, and they had not been removed from the province's list properly.

It seems the best approach to being eligible as a sponsor is to provide a letter from the welfare agency/province confirming WHEN you were taken off the list and you are no longer receiving benefits. CIC goes back 12 months to check, and some provinces do NOT correctly take people off their lists.

The burden of proof is on the sponsor, and CIC will not dig deep enough to confirm if the person is still receiving benefits. It seems to be in CIC's world, if the name is on the list, the sponsor is not eligible.

not really. it shows validity of the relationship, so the visa officer may scrutinize your relationship proof a little less. otherwise, having a child has no influence on how quickly the application is processed.

do they call the social assistance office to verify this information or check through the option C from CRA

I don't think they call. that's my point- it's up to the sponsor to PROVE they are no longer receiving the benefits as I dont believe CIC will do a deep enough check. They will see on the option c form that it's been used - and i think that is what they go by.

Even if they DO call, if the sponsor is still on the "official" list for whatever reason, they will not did deeper to find out if they benefit is currently being paid out. If the name's on the list, the name's on the list, and the sponsor will most likely not be eligible to sponsor.

CIC will do their own research into whether or not you were on social assistance. If you were, they will check with the provincial office as to the date you officially stopped receiving it. As long as this date is before you submitted the PR app, you should be ok.

However another poster on this site recently had their sponsorship app rejected because the provincial government office didn't properly take their name off the social assistance recipient list, even after they stopped receiving payments.

So you better check with the necessary government office to confirm exactly what date they have on file, that you officially stopped receiving payments and were removed completely from their files.
