I came across this older discussion and wanted to add that I’ve never seen anyone get in trouble for casual betting as long as it’s just personal gambling and not running a business. The key issue seems to be whether it counts as “work,” which it usually doesn’t. Has anyone here ever been asked about betting or gambling by IRCC during an application or interview?
The laws of Canada are quite loyal in this regard! The main thing is that you are already 19 years old, although in some provinces, such as Alberta, you can play even from 18. I myself once studied abroad and also experienced similar legal trifles with visa status. To better understand all the local nuances and rules of different provinces, I recommend reading the excellent article
how gambling works in Canada where the authors have clearly analyzed all the regulatory aspects. And which province are you in now, because the permitted bookmakers may differ slightly in each region?
