sponsorship with a criminal record

cant seem to get a clear answer on this... i am a canadian citizen born to canadian parents.
i have a criminal record from 2006 it occured in canada. assault with a weapon, it resulted in bodily harm to a member of the family class.
my question is if i get a record suspension can i sponsor my wife to come to canada???

if not is it better to get a study visa for my wife??
her ielts score 4.0 but she neglected to fill the last question out of frustration!!
can my father sponsor her for school esl or ielts course /show money / bank statements his account ???
obviously i cant use mine... :'(

allready had a visitors visa turned down because she has no income or job. I support her fully.

any suggestions / experiences appreciated

Reading the CIC website page at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/spouse-apply-who.asp it only refers to "record suspension" in the case of "attempt or threat". You were convicted of "actual" assault. Therefore it would not be relevant.

Record suspension or discharge
If you have been convicted in Canada and want to apply for a record suspension (formerly known as a pardon), check with the Parole Board of Canada. If you get a Canadian record suspension, you will no longer be inadmissible.

If you received a record suspension or a discharge for your conviction in another country, check with the visa office that serves the country or region where you live. It will tell you if the pardon is valid in Canada.

This will help make sure that when you arrive in Canada, a border services officer has enough information to decide if you can enter Canada. The officer will still check to make sure you are not inadmissible for other reasons.

The question is "Are you convicted for a crime or assault charge? If yes, then that can affect the application if you haven't received a pardon yet.

If you have discharge/absolute discharge or suspension then you are not CONVICTED. You are on probation for 2yrs for discharge and that shouldn't appear in your Criminal record if you are convicted. There's a big difference between conviction and discharge

Convicted has a criminal record but if it is record suspension/discharge. You don't have criminal record at all but a pending/discharge.

If that's the case, go ahead with your application if I'm assuming that you don't have any convictin with an assault charge.

the question is can i ever be alowed to sponsor my wife from philippines to come to canada as a spouse???
i was convicted of assault with a weapon in 2006 it is an endictment.
if i get a record suspension in 2016 can i then apply as a sponsor or will it matter??

You really need to be speaking with an experienced immigration lawyer. You are not going to get a definitive answer on this forum.
