Hi, I have a friend from Belarus and she introduced me to her friend from Ukraine. We have been emailing for quite some time and have recently discussed marriage and sponsorship. I declared bankruptcy in 2008 and told her I think this would prevent me from sponsoring anybody. Can you help me?

Gary what CIC wants to ensure is that you can prevent her from collecting benefits from the government. They won't allow you to proceed if you are on welfare or are in prison. Claiming bankruptcy doesn't prevent you from earning an income, it just means you have credit issues, and that's not CIC concern.
