Hi There,
My COPR is going to expire soon and in the meantime my wife is pregnant and we are expecting the baby to be delivered just a month or two before my COPR expires. I currently live in the US on a H1 B Visa and I would like to get some suggestions if it’s better to do a soft landing, apply for a PR card and try to sponsor PR for the child later or do not do the soft landing and inform CIC once the baby is born to have it added to the current application.

Note that if you opt to sponsor your child for PR later, you must be living in Canada to do this. Sponsoring your child for PR is not something you can do from outside of Canada. You must be in Canada when you submit the application to sponsor and must continue living in Canada while the application is processed. So something to consider.

Thanks. But if the child is an US Citizen then can I bring the child with me when I move permanently ?

Yes, you can do that if the child is a US citizen. Make sure you take out private medical insurance to cover emergencies since the child won't be covered by the provincial health care system until they are a PR (you'll need to pay for any non-emergency care out of pocket).
