Sponsoring "other relative" - Brother

I am preparing the paperwork to sponsor my brother, and if I am initially approved, what other information or documents do sponsors usually submit?

I read about the need for a search for marriage records, family tree history, affidavit of being single.

Not sure what is currently needed.

First need to make sure you are eligible to sponsor. Are parents alive? Any children or siblings?

My parents are alive and overseas.

I have no children and only this one brother. I wonder now if because my parents are alive that I can't sponsor my brother.

What do you think?

Thats right, if you read the rules on sibling sponsorship you will see that, even if your parents arent in Canada, youre expected to sponsor them instead. Did you not see that rule?

I saw the rule but did not interpret it as such. It's getting confusing now.

In the text below I understand that I can sponsor one relative from the list, and not that my parents need to be deceased.

You may sponsor one relative, related by blood or adoption, of any age if you meet all of the conditions, including:

• you don't have a living relative you could sponsor instead, such as a:
  • spouse
  • common-law partner
  • conjugal partner
  • son or daughter
  • parent
  • grandparent
  • brother or sister
  • uncle or aunt
  • nephew or niece

If you read it carefully, it says you can sponsor one relative if you dont have a living relative (meaning deceased) from the list, which you can see, includes parents
