hello everyone,
my partner and I are planning on moving to Canada and we are in the process of applying for permanent residency.
my partner and I have been together for 4 years now. we are planning to get married but we have been given different advice as to where and when to get married and I was hoping you can help us out.
I am currently living in Bangkok Thailand and working as a primary school teacher at an international school. we are hoping to move to Canada this august. we were thinking about getting married first and then apply for Permanent residence from outside of Canada, however we were told by friends that my partner should enter Canada on a tourist visa first, then get married in Canada and then apply for permanent resident after. i understand that it is a long and stressful process so any suggestion will be greatly appreciated. thank you

Hi Manita,

It's not that your partner "should" enter Canada on a tourist visa first. The CIC doesn't require that, and you can apply "inland" or "outland".

I wrote a lengthy post explaining the differences between inland and outland, as well as their pros and cons:

http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/help-please-making-a-long-post-so-you-could-understand-thank-you-t185200.0.html;msg2902461#msg2902461

And please read the next post (written by Zardos) written right underneath mine. He wrote a correction for an outdated thing that I wrote regarding the processing centre of inland applications.

Everything else I wrote is still relevant. Of course, all references to "Mexico City" in that post of mine should now be Colombo since your husband is Sri Lankan.
