When shipping your things back home by ship, did you guys label the boxes in any special ways? Or did you just put "used ______". I'm planning to go back in March but I want to start shipping soon.
Do you mean that you are going to be using a shipping company and sending your goods in several different shipments? If so, will any of those shipments be arriving before you return to Canada?

Also, any thing I should worry about when putting down the value of the goods?
Assuming you don't have any single item worth more than $10,000, ballpark figures are fine. The chances CBSA will actually open the boxes and start comparing it to the list of imported goods is very, very small.

Are the COPRS always sent through DHL to the sponsors address if it has been requested so for all correspondences? Im a bit worried as we have changed our addresses on ECAS months ago from calgary to toronto. My ECAS reflects this, however my wifes ecas still shows Calgary. Ive called everyone and they are unsure, also citing that glitches may account for her address not having been updated.

I don't know the answer for certain, but since COPR relates to the principal applicant, it would make sense that it would be sent to the principal applicant's address. You may want to get your wife's ECAS address changed ASAP, otherwise they may send the document to Calgary. Is there someone at that address who can forward it to you?

If you have your wife's UCI number you can log onto ECAS using her UCI number and make the address change there. If you don't have that number you can call CIC's Help Center and they will provide it to you.

Thanks Bart. Ive tried to change her address a few times on ECAS, emailed Manila and called CIC. For some odd reason her address remains unchanged. Hopefully, it is just sent to me in the end.

Have you tried doing it after logging in with her UCI number, as opposed to yours?

COPRs are always sent to applicant's address. There are many cases where sponsor is living in Canada already, and applicant is in another country. Since COPRs only need to go to applicant it doesn't make sense that they would use the sponsor's address for this.

If status has already changed to DM, then most likely the COPR has already been mailed out.

What you need to hope for, is that Manila really did change the address to the correct one, but just never bothered to update the ECAS system with it. I would also send a case-specific email to Manila asking what address it was sent to, although they may or may not even reply to this.

We sent 2 boxes the other day through Korea post and the might arrive before we get there. They say it usually takes a month so we'll see. We are planning to use korea post shipping for most of our stuff because we dont have anything big we need to take.

I see. I think if they arrive at their destination address before you leave Korea, you don't need to worry about them later. CBSA has already let them through and didn't care.

If they don't arrive before you leave, prepare a list of the boxes along with a short description of the contents and a ballpark value. When you fill out the customs form on the plane before you land in Canada, check the box that says you have goods to follow. Customs will direct you to the secondary inspection area where you can complete the B4 form. I'm not sure how it all works out later if you send them by post (we sent almost everything by ship) but if CBSA takes issue with any of your shipments and you don't have the B4, you may have a problem.

BTW, we sent a couple boxes by Korea Post too. They both arrived in 4 weeks. No questions from CBSA.

I have heard a rumour that they are going to move the visa section back to Seoul because it has been such a disaster in Manilla. Has anyone else heard this? Thanks!

My wife just told me that there are rumours that they are moving the office back to Seoul. She saw it on one of her Korean sites and I posted it on here, to see if anyone had heard anything similar.

Hi everyone,

Dumb Question, because my docs are already sent off - but just wanted clarification ~

ONLY my wife is required to do a criminal record background check, correct?

I have to list where I've lived for the last 5 years on my forms, while my wife has to do for the last 10 years on her forms ~ but she is the only one required to have a criminal / police check done, correct?

Hello

It would be grateful if you can answer my questions.

My file was transferred to Manila early of Jan according to email from CIC.

I do not have UCI no. so I could check out status online with my husband last name and his UCI.
Am I going to receive my UCI or will keeping using his for whole process to check out status?

After they transferred file to Manila office, would VO send letter or email to update process?

Thank you in advance.

I'm assuming that your husband is your sponsor and you are the principal applicant. I'm also assuming that by "early of Jan" you mean early January 2014.

You do have a UCI number, CIC just hasn't given it to you yet. You can get it by calling CIC and asking for it. Then you can log into ECAS with your UCI number, name and date of birth and see what the status of your application is. You will not get any information about the status of your application if you use your husband's UCI number, name and date of birth. So, call CIC and ask for your UCI number.

If your file was transferred to Manila just a few weeks ago, it's unlikely ECAS will show anything other than "Application Received" at this point, if it's in their system yet. Your ECAS status will probably stay at "Application Received" for the next 5-6 months at which point you should get an email or letter from Manila updating the status of your application and/or asking for some additional information or documents. That email/letter will include your UCI number. Hope that helps.
