Hi All,

I see that interest to sponsor parents and grandparents application is now open. Does anyone know if a PR holder Canada (Aug 2020 became PR), living in USA can apply?

Thank you!

You got to be living in Canada for 3 years (3 tax returns) to be able sponsor PR and one year (1 tax returns) to be able to sponsor super visa.

No - not possible. As said above, you need to be living in Canada and provide three CRA NOAs to qualify. You'll need to wait until you have moved to Canada and lived in Canada for at least three years before you will qualify to enter the lottery.

Hi, is it true that if someone lives in Quebec they just need one year of tax assessment for the income levels published by Quebec government instead of 3 years for parents sponsorship?

If you are living in Quebec, then it's one year.

so if we move to Quebec at the end of 2020, would we be eligible for PGP sponsorship in 2022 provided there is enough income?
Yes, and you would need to continue living in Quebec and earning sufficient income while the application is processed (assuming you are selected).

What will count will be your taxable income in Canada not your international income.. Quebec looks at more of a complete picture so it is unclear whether working in the US on H!B while living in Quebec will be an issue for those reviewing MIFI.

Can you provide source where it says international income won't be counted? Any income is an income right..why would they not count it?

PGP applications look at you Canadian tax returns and your Canadian taxable income. PGP is a program that rewards people who have been living in Canada and paying Canadian taxes. Yes you can claim international income when you are living in Canada if it is taxable. The application says it looks at your tax return and specifically line 150. PGP is generally a drain on the taxpayers because parents rarely work or pay taxes. The government want to make sure that people being selected to sponsor their parents have shown some commitment to living in Canada and can afford to support their parents even though I personally think LICO is too low.

Are you still thinking of moving to Quebec?
Working in Canada while still working in the US on your H1B will influence your Canadian taxable income and Quebec looks at more than your taxable income. It is unclear whether they reject people who aren't working in Quebec. All things you should clarify. Your children also will need to attend French school if they attend public school (if you have children).
