Hi,

I am the spouse (outland; Indian citizen living in the US) of a PGWP holder. Currently, we have a PR application in process, but I believe the approval is on hold due to COVID restrictions. My wife's WP expires in June 2021, and I have a few queries regarding that:

  1. Is there any difference between BOWP and PGWP extension under Public Policy, apart from the duration for which the WPs are issued? Should one be preferred over the other?
  2. Should I, the dependent, apply for only a TRV or is SOWP + TRV a better option? I don't have a job lined-up in Canada.

I'd appreciate any help regarding this. Thank you!

1. Each program, BOWP and PGWP caters to different needs and has a different criteria. After your PGWP expires, you cannot renew it, unless there is a policy in place. Where in case of BOWP, you can renew it if your PR application is in progress. Also, the eligibility for BOWP and PGWP is different, so based on your specific circumstances, see what best works for you.

2. If you want to work in Canada, SWOP is what you should consider.
