Hi Guys!

I’ve few questions regarding our move to Canada. My wife and I are planning to move to Canada from SF Bay Area early next year but will be completing soft landing this November since our Medicals expire in December. We are confused where to do soft landing landing between Toronto and Vancouver. Vancouver is preferred due to its proximity to Bay Area but Toronto is the place where we might move eventually. However we need few clarifications before taking the call.

1. It seems like at Vancouver airport, they don't stamp Goods to Follow if they know we are here for soft landing, however, that's not the case in Toronto. Is that true?
2. How will it go with waiving duties on my stuff (if I don't have goods to follow form stamped) when I make the permanent move early next year?
3. I'm planning to hire movers and giving them the goods to follow list, will that scenario get complicated?
4. Is there a need to tell the officers at the airport that I'll be leaving in a week and then returning again in few months?
5. Nevertheless shall we go to Toronto to experience the city? We have a week for traveling and been to Vancouver before.

Appreciate any inputs. Thank you!

1. No, it makes no difference.
2. You will still get duty waived when you make the actual permanent move.
3. Not sure
4. If they ask
5. Up to you
