As I am unable to get the phone records of the calls between us from September till now,
I am trying to find an alternative means of communicating.
I heard about video calls on something called Skype and am curious to know
all I can about this.

Please and thank you.

You both download the application and set up accounts. The service won't be able to be backdated but, as you are currently not residing together, it can be used now to prove that you maintain contact.

Additionally, an alternative to the phone is getting voip (like Vonage). The record keeping is great and it should be similar in cost to phone cards.

We've used Yahoo IM for voice calls quite a lot. We've had several calls of over 8 hours. Yes, that means we cooked and ate meals together over the Internet lots of times. Yahoo only shows you the record for the last 100 calls and it's very hard to copy the list except as a screen capture.

We've also used Jajah. http://www.jajah.com/ It uses regular phone lines and currently costs 3 cents a minute between Canada and the U.S. It used to be that you had to set up each call on the computer but there is now direct dialing from many places in the U.S. and Canada (and maybe 16 other countries). Complete records can be printed and/or exported to Excel.

I'm also on Gizmo5 http://www.google.com/gizmo5/ which is 1 cent a minute Canada/U.S. and gives good records but for many months now (since Google took it over) they haven't been accepting new accounts, so I won't go into that.

You can get records of your conversations for the last 6 months on skype so when you start to get over 6 months,copy them then copy every month after so you dont loose your first month.

Are the skype 'records' just what is shown on text call history and then printed? Or can you get something more official from them?

Thanks.

We copy and pasted from the skype call history...We were accepted. Obviously it shouldn't be your only proof, but in conjunction with other things, I don't see the problem. Don't you think they'd be able to tell if it was a fabricated conversation? You'd have to be a pretty good writer to make chat dialogue ring true.

man i just wanted to be in the safe side... it took a long time to press print screen button continuously. good thing is if you use print screen then it would show the skype background which cant be manufactured. my SG office is very strict approval rate is only 57% so didnt want to take risk.

Yeah for sure. Thats what I will do, print each screen.

Thanks.

For those that used Skype, there's a easier way to gain access to the log file rather then print screen. As long as you had been communicating with your spouse from the same computer, Skype have a history of your chat session from day 1. I'd used this program to export my chat session with my wife which dated back to Jan 2010.

Tried to post a direct link to download but it was not allow. Do a google search "SkypeLogView", it the first search result. Download this program (it free for personal use), this program will allow you export the log into text/csv/html/xml file format.

Skype Log Files Location
========================

In Windows XP, Skype Log files are stored under C:\Documents and Settings\[Profile
Name]\Application Data\Skype\[Skype User]. In Windows Vista\7, the
log files are stored under C:\Users\[Profile
Name]\AppData\Roaming\Skype\[Skype User].

Using SkypeLogView
==================

SkypeLogView doesn't require any installation process or additional dll
files. In order to start using it, simply run the executable file -
SkypeLogView.exe
If Skype is installed on your system, SkypeLogView automatically detect
the last used account, and loads the logs from it. You can select to view
the logs of another account by using the "Select Logs Folder" option.
After you loaded the right logs, you can select one or more items from
the list, and then save them to text/csv/html/xml file.

Hope this help.
