Hello everyone,
My sister lives in canada and wanted to sponsor my mother and me as a dependent child. My sister is almost 30 now. I was born on December 1987. I went to the first college in 2006. On July 2008, my mother submitted the application. On May 2009 i dropped out of the college ( it takes you 4 years to get the diploma but i dropped out in the third year, so i didn't get the diploma ). On September 2009, i enrolled in another college and has been continuously studying in this college as a full-time student and intended to study to finish the course and will get the diploma in September 2012. I'm still financially dependent to my parents. My worry is that the is it a problem that i dropped out of my first college in the third year, would it be considered as an interruption time? Am i still viewed as a dependent child because of the dropping out of the first college ? Because in the manual it said
"Dependent children over
22 years of age and fulltime
students
:
Since before the age of 22 or, if married or a common-law partner
before the age of 22, since becoming a spouse of common- law
partner they have been:
• substantially dependent for financial support on their parents; and
• continuously enrolled and actively pursuing a course of study at an
accredited post secondary institution when the application"
.
But now in the second college, i has been studied in the first year and don't have any interruption time. Am i still able to be sponsored by my sister?

Thank you very much.

Having dropped out of your program before graduating is not a problem. You were born in December 1987 and have been studying full time at least since Sept. 2009. That means you have been studying full time since before your 22nd birthday. Whatever you did before is not relevant.

In order to keep the status of a dependent child, you must continue to study full time until you get your PR. You can also not get married or enter into a common law relationship during that time.

The problem is that sponsoring parents takes years and they are currently revising the program and it is now closed for new applications since November 5 and for at least the next 2 years, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/index.asp After they open it, the processing times for the new program will hopefully be shorter. It is currently taking 5 years+ to sponsor a parent.

Does your sister live in Manitoba or Saskatchewan by any chance? Depending on your mothers age and skills, your sister may be able to sponsor you and her faster under the provincial nominee program family stream.

Thanks for your instant response. My sister lives in Toronto. So its been 3 and a half years since my mother submitted the application. As you mentioned, it is taking 5 years+ to finish the whole process. So, if i graduate in September 2012 , will i have to continue to enroll in another college/university to study as a full-time student again until we have an interview for visa (as it said in the manual) ?
And what documents do i need to prove that i'm financially dependent to my mother and do i have to keep all the tuition receipts, year book, grade , scholarship papers,.. to prove that i "actively pursuing a course" ? Will they ask hard question about what i learn at school? I feel a bit pressure when i read things in the manual.

If she already applied 3.5 years ago, that would have been before you turned 22. If that is the case, your age is locked in and you do not have to continue to study full time but you still can not get married or enter into a common law relationship.

5.13. Who qualifies as a dependent child?
R2 and Section 6 in this chapter describe who qualifies as a dependent child.
In order to meet R2(b)(i) of the definition of “dependent child”, a child must be under 22 years of age and not a spouse or common-law partner on the date when the IMM 1344AE is received by CPC-M, and not a spouse or common-law partner when the visa is issued, and when they arrive in Canada.

5.4. Lock-in age of dependent children
The lock-in of age for dependent children is the day CPC-M receives a completed IMM 1344AE and correct processing fees. Dependent children must be less than 22 years of age when the sponsorship application is received.

I have a Question i am facing a problem while filling the forms. The for says that i have to give full proof of financial supoort by parents since reaching age 22. I am curently 23 and enrolled in an MBA program as a Full time student. My father is providing financial support for my education. Now the question is What proof i have to show to the CIC that my father is supporting me ? AlsThankso the form asks for leters from the schools indicating the number of hours of classes attended per day, and the number of days attended per wekk. Now does this mean that i have to get letters from my previous educational institutes or just the letter from current institute where i am enrolled for my mba?? One more thing what are we supoosed to write in the letter?? How should we start and who shouldd we refer to? Plz reply ASAP!

for financial support show the collage fees, or if you have bank accouts show the bank statemnet where your family provide you finance. its rellay hard for indian student to show that they are finacially depnedent on their parents as our 90 % transactions done on cash and we dont have bank accounts or visa like here canada. so you can just write the letter saying you never workedbefore and explain how you are dependent on your dad saying you are fulltime student and have no other earnings.
if possible get the letter from your previous institute as well

what exactly is written in letter from school? In my college they only give you a paper that certify you as a student of the school ,the paper doesn't show hours of student's attendance. They said the record(transcript) is the proof of attendance. One more thing, is it mandatory to have the parent's name on the spending bills? Most of expenses (food, accommodation, ... ) are done in cash and most have my name on it, the tuition receipts don't have my mother's name on it, my internet and computer gadgets bills have my name on them. Should i submit the tuition receipts, bills to CIC? And if i want to write a letter to them, what should i write?
Thanks.

The issue is that we paid all the fees in cash , so we dont have any past record of it! :S.. But yes my new semester has started soo i can attach the photocopy of the cheque with the documents and also will provide the letter on my father's behalf that he is financial supporting me as i am a fulltime student at the university! I think it would be feasible! Also i the Document checklist states that u have to provide a certificate from your university stating the hours u are urrently studying, but the university just provided me with a certiicate that i am a bonified student of the university and enrolled in MBA program. University ppl said that they cant write that how many hours u study and how many days u attend the university! Anyways Guys Thanks for the reply! It really Helped! :)

Either under PNP and then you must live in MB or SK and you and your sister meet requirements under the PNP's there for education, funds etc. and you must have lived there for at least 1 year or under the federal system as the one other relative you can sponsor if you are alone in the world but that means you can not be married, you have no children, your parents are deceased and you have no other close relatives in Canada.
