Under the Liberals, all my friends and the friends of my parents who wed Vietnamese people, the waiting were 6-8 months (including the interview) maximum and the fastest time were 3 months (my cousin).

So yes, the Conservatives are trying to heavily reduce the immigration from what they call 3rd world countries. Sorry for my bad English, I'm a Francophone from Quebec.
Correlation does not imply causation - these are anecdotal and do not specify a change in policy that the 'evil Harper' government imposed to increase wait times.

There are many factors outside the CPC being in power that led to this such as
Downturn in the world economy leading to less tax base leading to less jobs in government but more economic migration
An increase in marriage fraud cases from Vietnam over the past
An increase in applicants from other countries that apply through Singapore VO without increase in VO staff (or decrease in staff)

I voted Liberal in the last election but I don't see where bashing the current government is relevant with out direct citing of policy changes they implemented to CIC.

In fact I am currently sponsoring my wife from Vietnam and I was process through CPC Mississauga within 40 days (after an initial screw up with the paperwork)

I also know of a few friends who had their spouses sponsored from start to finish in 9 months (one even 6 months recently).

I also know of a case where it took over 3 years and an appeal. In this case my uncles friend's son was much older then his wife, didn't know her very long before marrying, had no job and was on welfare for a time (so you can see where the case got held up at several points)

So unless there is a set of policies that someone here can name I think the political bashing is just personal views bleeding into how facts are viewed.

once again - Correlation does not imply causation

To RCVmini,

Surf the Net and look for the Bill C-38. Read all the sections concerning the changes about immigration rules.

Believe what you want you want to believe, we are in a free country.

My final thought on that matter: If the "logic" and "rationality" help you to endure the wait time, then good for you. On the other hand, some people need to vent to release their anger and sadness.

Regardless of who is in power. With so many fake marriages and sponsors over the past decade, it's bound for a crack down. People immigrate to Canada get their PR card/citizenship and go back home, only coming back to Canada when it benefit them. If you going to blame, blame the people who abused the lax immigration law. It sucks that the legitimate sponsors get drag in the mud along with the fake ones.

Today, I have got my visa with COPR in hand, ALHAMDULILLAH. I am planning to go to Canada very soon INSHAALLAH.
Now, I have some questions to all of you (specially who are experienced):

1. How many luggages are allowed for one person while travelling for the first time? (I mean to say, how many KGs are allowed?)
2. Can I carry my laptop without facing any problem?

I would really appreciate if someone could provide me with these informations.

Best wishes to all and thank you very much everybody who are helping people in this group. This is really an awesome group :)

Congrets Mr Rakib

To answer you Q:
Q1. How many luggages are allowed for one person while travelling for the first time? (I mean to say, how many KGs are allowed?)
Ans.: Normally 2 big suitcases ( 50 lb each), one hand carry (about 8-10 lb) and one personal item (ie. Laptop)

2. Can I carry my laptop without facing any problem?
Ans.: You may carry laptop without facing any problem (Laptop will be scan at the airport(s))

Also....
There is a rule that within a year after your first arrival in Canada as a landed immigrant you are entitled to bring to Canada free of duties and taxes those of your personal belongings which you declared upon initial arrival. Note that your suitcases are not checked at your first entry to Canada. But at your following arrivals you may be asked to pay duty for the goods that you bring to Canada.
The next important factor is money. You will be asked about the amount of money at your disposal at the moment of your arrival and the money that will follow, for example, from the proceeds of the sale of your property abroad. This amount will be indicated in your landing document. If you do not mention the money that will follow you, then the amounts transferred from abroad may be taxable as your income.

Thanks,
Eludor
