SIN for American-Canadians Living in US

I have a few questions about whether I should apply for Canadian SIN card from the US. I was born in the US and have been dual American-Canadian all my life; and have US SSN. I've never lived or worked in Canada but am considering it in the future. I'm wondering if it'd be a good idea to apply for SIN now to be ready for that or to wait and apply in person at a Service Canada office if and when I find work in Canada and make the move; or even at the beginning of a real effort to make the move. Wondering if anyone else has this experience and has any advice. I have my proof of citizenship and am in the process of getting my Canadian passport. From what I understand I could apply for SIN online. Just wondering if applying now is a good idea and if there are any potential pitfalls to applying early from abroad. Thanks for any insight or advice. ❤
