Hi everyone my husband and I just got married and we want to start the application process but I was wondering if I have to change my last name before I start filing for him.I plan on changing my last name to his but I'm waiting on our marriage certificate to do that first? Help please I'm new to this whole filing thing.and as for our application any helpful tips would be great as in what other things to put in our application to show our relationship is genuine.what would I do for show that we speak every day but not on email.we WhatsApp,he calls me on the phone and we IMO but how would I get print out of those to show since its not everyone have their cell phone on a phone plan like myself I do prepaid its less stress. And should he just do his medical and police check the same time and send it with all the papers he filled out and signed our do we have to wait till immigration calls or tell us when he should do them.by the way we are doing an outland application from Canada I see its much faster .we just try to get his visiting visa and they turn him down say he don't have enough ties to his home country .so we just decided to just do the sponsorship and done.sorry for the long post

I read many posts that said if you change your name after you send in your application it will delay your application. I couriered all of the relevant documents for the name change and they arrived on a Monday and by Friday the name was changed.
You have to do the medical and police check first on an outland. You need to prove a genuine relationship. Photos, cards, letters anything you can think of. Even notarized letters from friends and relatives.

it is far easier to change your name before or during the process than it is after approval or after landing. changing your name during the process doesn't necessarily cause delays (it will depend on whether the application has already been approved or not). All you need to do is notify cic by sending a scanned copy of the new passport. generally the only ways it would cause a delay is if they never received the notification and the COPR is issued in the old name or if they have already approved the application and sent the COPR before being notified of the new name.

As the sponsor, it doesn't matter when you change your name; it will have no effect on the process. If you apply now with your current name and change it mid-process, just send CIC a copy of your updated ID.
