Should I apply for a renewal of my study permit and TRV?

Hey guys,

I am from Bangladesh, and I have studied in Canada for the past 2 years now. I am currently in Bangladesh visiting my family.

My old passport still had 6 months till the expiry date (around the end of December this year), but I decided to renew my passport which I received a couple of weeks ago. Both my study permit and TRV has the same expiry date as my old passport. Does the study permit and trv remain valid now that I have a new passport? Or should I apply for a renewal from Bangladesh? I still have 3 years left in my study.

you have to renew your passport before you can apply for the extension. because in filling out the forms you will have to enter your passport info(number, date of issue and expiration) and they will not issue visas and permits beyond the validity of your passport.

It might not have been clear from my previous statement, but I already have a new passport. My question is: Are the trv and study permit in my old passport invalid now due to the new passport? That's the reason my asking whether I need to apply for an extension before reentry into Canada.
