Shipping our belongings overseas

We are moving from Austria to Vancouver early next year.

We are debating how much of our belongings we should bring. We could just bring our essentials and buy new furniture when we get there. But it might be more cost effective to bring some of our stuff with us. Does anyone know how much this kind of thing cost and where I should go to look. I have looked on the internet briefly, but havn't really found anything helpful as of yet.

Thanks in advance,

I got a quote from several places regarding moving our 4+ bedroom home contents from the USA to Canada. One of them was a shipping container that was going to be filled and then driven. It was 14K for that quote. I did get lower ones - again I'm in the US just going to Canada, but perhaps it at least gives you a baseline.

The range of the quotes I got, were 7K-17K.

My current quotes for a shared container from the UK to calgary door to door currently range from £900-£1500 our things are 40 small boxes no furniture etc as it really is going to save you money to buy it here - shipping is very expensive!
