I have seen few instances where sending an updated employment referrence letters created issues. So I wanted to check if its safe enough to send one.

My application was received on Dec 31, 2012. I completed my 2 yrs experience in Canada on Dec 22nd. So I got a reference letter from my employer on Dec 24th and mailed my application to CIC which they received on 31st dec.

My question is, its very short gap between my 2 yrs completion date and employment reference letter dated. Is it safe enough to send an updated reference letter with present date and with out changing any content in the letter? I am still working in Canada with the same employer.

Please advice.

You certainly can send updated ref letter, but they will not consider it. They will use documents you sent initially. If you were paid during period stated in your first ref letter (salary stated in ref letter correlates with your T4/NoA) you shouldn't worry too much

As long as your letter is dated after you obtained 24 months of experience, I don't see why there would be a problem.

Thanks, so will they not consider the new letter which I will submit? As my letter was dated on 24th and application received on 31st. If I send a new letter, it will at least increase the validity of the letter till 31st.

No. They won't count experience beyond the date the application was received. It's historic. You should be fine based on what you have said above b

First of all, when you say "updated reference letter" what do you mean? what is changing in your letter?

Umm, No it changes everything.

Your new reference letter is the one, they will take into account (why do you think people had issues, with new letter? cause they submitted something, which changed the whole application process.)

But cec4111, if you followed every rule (i hope), you don't need to worry. There is nothing called a "short gap between my 2 yrs completion date and employment reference letter dated". You are just worrying too much :)

You completed exp on 22nd, got the letter on 24th, They received on the 31st. I don't see anything wrong with this.

Aaah I think I get it now. When you said updated, you just meant same letter with current date. :P

No, don't need to do it. You need to send CIC an updated letter, if something massive changes occur in your work contract. For example: your hours get reduced, or u get demoted etc etc.

If the letter is valid (by CIC rules), when they received it - its valid.
