Hi,

My partner and I submitting our common law application in the next few days. She hasn't done her taxes yet, and we weren't common law when see did her taxes last year.
Also, she has started a new job and she will receive benefits in a few months. I will also be on the benefits, so we would like to send that document as well.
I was wondering if we can webform additional documents after submitting the application?

Thank you for your help.

no, if it's mandatory document in your checklist

Yes, you can submit 'additional' documents after, if you really think it helps your app after. Or you could include a short letter of explanation that some things (eg benefits for common law spouse) will show up in a few months - and let IRCC ask for them if they wish at that time.

Of course, IRCC might not ask and/or may not pay much attention to docs you provided later - although I believe they're required to look at such docs before rejecting your app.

But as noted: if they are required documents on the checklist, then they must be included with the original app or will be returned. IRCC returns apps - not rejecting the application - when the application is considered incomplete.

There's a distinction here between 'required' docs - things that absolutely must be included - and 'additional evidence.' To me this distinction is pretty obvious, but it seems not always to others.
