Send off our apps. What happens after receipt!

Dear friends.

Although I have messaged this board for a number of issues in the past, so far I never asked what happens after they receive our apps

Just last week we send our apps from Greece. They still have not arrived in Mississauga yet according to my Postal tracking. (It usually takes between 5-7 days for post to arrive in Canada from Greece but I believe there must be a delay with the snow storm)

Now to my Questions:

1. What happens after they receive it?
2. Will I be notified by email or letter?
3. What would this message looks like.
4. Would they assign us to a Case number that we can track our case process through Internet?

1 - Your app will sit in a pile of other apps, until they open and start processing it. During this time, you won't get any feedback or status updates. If you sent via a courier, at least you can get a signature that your package was received ok by CPC-M.

2 - It depends what you selected in your application. There is a question that asks if you want notifications by email... so if you selected this and provided email address then practically all correspondence will be via email.

3/4 - Once CPC-M opens and starts working on your file, you should get an email notification.
First message we ever got was several weeks after submitting the application. It showed:

UCI: XXXXX
Application No.: FXXXXX
Quote these numbers when corresponding with our office.

This is an automated message. Please DO NOT RESPOND to this message.

Dear Sponsor,

This confirms that your application to Sponsor a Member of the Family Class has been received by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) on 2012/07/16 on behalf of the following member(s):

Applicant Name


At this point you can now start using the UCI or App number assigned, to access your file online.

Then 3 days later, we got another email saying sponsorship decision was made, and they attached a pdf file to the email with official approval letter and stating package was sent to outland visa office.

My application didn't give me the option of selecting email correspondance. It just asked if I had an email address. Does this mean it'll automatically be sent by email?

Yes, sorry looking back it's not a question, its a statement on the form.

Current mailing address
-All correspondence will go to this address unless you indicate your email address below.
- Indicating an email address will authorize all correspondence, including file and personal info, to be sent to the email address you specify

Thank you for the info. Just to let you know I send my parcel with registered mail so that means they CIC will have to sign to accept it.

Haha yes, my messsage was that the majority of the process after you send off the letter involves waiting!
