I had a small amount of self-employment income - work performed in Canada for a US client, who issued a 1099-MISC.

So, I know that US Citizens are required to pay self-employment tax regardless of where the work is performed. And, under the tax treaty, this tax is deductible on the Canadian tax return.

But since it is not "foreign business income" (all work was performed in Canada), I can't figure out how I'm supposed to take the deduction. All examples I can find are based on the assumption that the work was performed in the US and is therefore foreign business income, and the federal foreign tax credit applies.

Anyone with experience in this?
