Research is something that some of us do before we post so that we can give "accurate" help to people when they ask questions, no matter what the question is.

On the cic.gc.ca website, under Rights and Responsibilities of Citizenship it lists information about MP's

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/publications/discover/section-09.asp

Anyone becoming a Canadian Citizen needs to have some basic knowledge of our government.

It is just as easy for me to do a search for information as it is for you. You may find that researching stuff opens up a whole new world for you. Good luck with that.

ok now i know what "member of parliament" is. but i still dont understand why someone has to involve him in sponsorship cases?

When a MP is willing to help you on your application it means that you are a reliable person(unless you're faking it).. most MPs won't help a person unless they really know who the person is, his/her background and so on.. I have heard that having a support letter from one of these MPs can change lots of things on your application, I mean it may help your application. :)

I also didn't know what a MP was when I first came to Canada. However I still try my hardest to understand how the Parliament works here in Canada. :P

Each area of Canada is divided up into areas that elect a person to represent them on parliament hill in Ottawa. For example the MP of Spadina/Trinity in Toronto is Olivia Chow. She represents each individual person in that area and their interests and concerns at Parliment.

When you have an issue with the government or it's agencies (ie. CIC) you can ask your MP to assist you in solving your issue or concern. MP's can be very helpful in certain circumstances. For example they can compel the office to move more quickly on your file - but they would need to have pretty good reason - but they can not affect the outcome.

Hope that helps. Please consider doing a preliminary google search of the Canadian Government and how it works.
