i recently received a reply from tel aviv telling my that my husbands application is still in background and security check. They said that it was started back in MAY 2011 and it could take up to 6 months OR MORE.

My question is does it actually take more than 6 months to perform security and background checks?? My husband does come from a country that has problems but he personally has a perfectly clean police record which we provided. Also he has never been outside of his cuontry so it's not like there are different countries that they have to check.

My other question is, what kind of checks do they perform on the person? Is it just where he comes from or other places too?

Thank You very much for your replies.

It can take more than 6 months that depends on your case. One thing that causes longer background checks is if he served in mandatory military service. Background checks take more time especially if one comes from country with problems (wars, conflicts etc.). I'm stuck in bc checks almost 12 months now.

Wow! 12 months!! that's crazy ??? Do u know wut kind of checks they make?

well i figured because he comes from this kind of country it might take that long, but he has never served in any army, he was never involved in anything political.. UGH!! it's just soooo frustrating!

I just know it takes more time. Maybe it is to early for you to worry. It says that average processing time for your VO is 8 months and your file transfer was in May, so you have 3 more months to go before exceeding that average time. If in doubt you can always order GCMS notes and check status of your application.

In our case it took from Feb 09 to May 11, so almost 2 years.
They have a number of organizations that are involved, RCMP, CBSA, and the organizations within your country.
They investigate if you were involved in any criminal activity. Not sure why it takes so long, but they can be really slow.
Just have patience.

OMG 2 yrs!! i really do wonder why it would take that long. especially if the person has not left the country in his life.

i ordered the CAIPS back Aug 15th and i haven't received them yet. I keep calling and leaving messages but no one has gotten back to me yet.

I just got in contact with my MP and the request was put in this week so hopefully we'll hear something.

hi serdj977,
what is GCMS. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW.

That's the same as old CAIPS notes but it is more in a free form text and it is 20 pages or so about your application. You order them the same as CAIPS.

Agreed. Unfortunately, at this stage there is not much you (or anyone else) can do. As impossible as it seems the best thing you can do is let go, and practice the art of patience. It won't be easy, but the alternative is driving yourself crazy waking up every morning thinking "is today the day?" and going to bed every night disappointed.

Good luck - I hope it happens fast for you!!

Lynn

Your spouse from Israel ? and the visa office is Tel Aviv !

Processing time at Tel Aviv is normally 8 months for spousal case and once application received at overseas office its stepped for initial review i.e checking of documents, medicals, and payments and if everything is in order than Back ground checks and decision made, just for your info extensive BC is done for applicants from Israel. (ratio of BC varies from 6 to 9 months)

So overall you can expect your spouse visa before Jan 2012.

Best wishes for speedy visa asap !
