Security check for express entry

Hi all:
I applied for EE in Sept 2017. I have a PNP application in progress since Feb 2016 but my security got passed on to third party in May 2017 and they haven't heard any update since. I decided to apply through Express Entry for a quicker processing time.
Do applications from express entry go into third party security as well sometimes?
