As planning, I would graduate in April 2020. However, I have to retake 2 courses that worths 10 credits. Because of COVID, my retake course have suspended until January 2021 (1/2021-5/2021) . This schedule break is more than 150 days. Can I still stay in Canada until January when I change my status to Visitor Record then I continue my study. My study permit valid until 8/2021. Thank you.
Have you reached out to your schools International student advisor? If you haven't, I would recommend you do.
If you did not have an option taking the class online, you should be applying to
extend your study permit and not a visitor record. In cases I have seen, you will need to write an explanation letter on why you are extending your study permit.
Some documents you would need to include are:
Your Academic record
Transcripts
Letter of enrollment
Letter of explanation
receipt of payment for the two courses you have to retake
and most especially a Proof that the courses were suspended to January e.g a notification from your school cancelling all classes in summer and fall without an alternative option (like a screenshot of the message on the school website or an email sent out).
With an explanation letter you might resolve your situation because some rules are changing due to COVID and the challenges it has presented.
But don't take chances, you should call CIC to let you know the best step to take.
