If you are working in Canada for an academic institution for one year on a sabbatical leave but are being paid by a foreign employer with salary being deposited in foreign bank account for being on sabbatical, do you qualify for Canadian Experience class?

You need to receive paystubs with EI/CPP/taxes deducted and get T4. Your employer must be a Canadian company/institution.

Yes, I have T4 with EI/CPP/taxes deducted from Canadian institution for 2024 fall semester, since I was taking classes for one semester. For second and third semester in 2025, spring and summer, I did not take any classes, hence I might not be getting T4 for 2025. I was sent by my institution on sabbatical so I am getting salary in my country from my institution for being in Canada.

So you cannot count Canadian experience while you are a student.

I am not a student but a visiting professor
You said taking, not teaching classes. Your post isn't clear. You say your are paid for foreign organization but receive pay through Canadian institution. If paid by Canadian institution with payslips/T4 then you can count that time. How many hours/months have you worked in Canada full time?

4 months, September to December. So I am a visiting professor. Think of exchange program but for professors. The way this works is you are an employee of an academic institution back home. You get paid salary there and you are sent to Canada to engage in various activities such as teaching classes, participate in research, create programs etc. Some of activates are paid activities by Canadian institute such as teaching classes. Some would involve other forms of reimbursements, renumeration. Some activities are going to be unpaid as well. So you get paid full time salary back home from your institute in your local currency plus the salary for the paid work you did in Canada in CAD.

For me I took classes for 4 months September to December, which was paid work and I got T4. Since then I am working on research which is unpaid here in Canada. I will be returning back to my institute and country on August. It was 40 hours of work per week for 4 months

You qualify for CEC if you have one year of full time Canadian work experience in Canada.
