I asked Erin if I had to pay the fees and I am a canadian citizen, she told me to send in the $5 check so I did :S However, the notes I have requested are for my wife and she is not in Canada...

But if you're a Canadian citizen filing for it from within Canada, you don't have to pay the $5 right?
My understanding is that the following people DO NOT have to pay $5: people currently present in Canada and/or permanent residents and/or canadian citizens... all of these people apply under the privacy act.

Anyone else (non-PR or citizens and out of the country) apply under access act and have to pay $5.

Yes, the only time you don't have to pay the fee is if the Principal Applicant is residing in Canada, even for an outland application. So if you are applying on behalf of your spouse (they are the PA) and you are in Canada but they are not, the $5 fee is applicable.

Best way to get info is to just call her. Easier and faster! She might have missed your email who knows...

It takes about 30-days from when they receive your application, and you will need your spouse's consent to obtain the notes. No, it does not affect the immigration process, its just merely pulling your sponsorship application from CIC main computer server in Ottawa. Its worth ordering one if you have the time to review it and know where you stand. Yes, you can get info on your status.

You can order a copy by emailing or phoning Erin of CIC-Ottawa

Just received my CAIPS notes after a month.

Link for Codes used by CIC is: http://immipedia.ca/CAIPS_Codes
Phone # for general inquiries about CAIPS is: 18006676703
The contact qouted above is no longer there you must go through the 1-800 number

Received my CAIPS notes on Nov 2nd and its of not much help.
All I got from it is that they received all the extra documents that my wife sent i.e supplemantary information form, supporting letter and docs (after I visited my wife in summer)

Medical results: received and assessed but only valid until Jan 2011

Last time the file was opened in Apr 2010, and its been sitting in the storage area since then...

@Wes, is there a BF'D (Bring forward date) anywhere in your CAIPS notes? If time from April exceeds listed standards for your visa office, I suggest that you inquire Visa Office directly about the status of your application, via e-mail, mail or fax.

The last BF'D was April 10, 2010. Processing time for my Visa office is 16 months from AOR according to the CIC website and its only been 8 months for my wife. So I don't think there is any point of contacting them at this point plus I am following the thread as well for people going through the same VO and average time is about what they have mentioned on CIC website. Its frustrating. However, I will contact them after its been 9 months becasue thats what it said on the AOR about the average processing time and see what they have to say.

hi all
at what stage is best to order CAIPS ? thx
If you are asked for an interview, it is a good idea to order them because it will give you the details on some of the red flags on the application and what to prepare for in the interview. However, if you want to order them for the updates, then depends when you applied and through which visa office. I applied for them after 8 months, however current time for my visa office on CIC website is 16 months so there was no update on my file and it was just sitting in the storage area so check on that aswell if you are planning to order them..
