Request for Passport while my spouse is not in Canada, help please,

Hi All,

I am a CEC applicant and I applied on Nov 2nd, 2012. Also, my spouse is included in my application, and we both have received our MR this month. However, my wife is planning to go visit her family back-home and it is going to be for a few months, and I was wondering how would I deal with if CIC requested our passports for a visa stamp while she is back-home:

- Can she send her passport to me and then send our passport together? or,

- Can she send her passport to CPP-Ottawa and I send my passport seperately?

CIC don't mind how they get the passports, as long as they get them! Personally I would get her passport to you and then get you to submit them both together.

I would beg to differ JSM.... passport should be sent my spouse separately as the passport will have exit stamps and it might create troubles.

Sorry, I mean the entry stamp at Indian airport, after you land here, your passport will have entry stamp.

Just my opinion and I am no way the authority to confirm things, if I would have the OP, I would have my spouse send the passport from India rather I send it along with me.

Well, I've never, ever, ever seen a situation such as the one you mention actually occur. CIC knows that the passports need to be transported and their is no obligation for the applicant(s) to be in Canada while this is happening so, what you are describing is a non-issue.

Unless you are sure of something, please don't make such statements as it is confusing for others who are already confused.

I stick by what I said.

Both points are strong, but I heard it is illegal to send her passport to an individual unless it is sent to an embassies or to government authorities. Also, her passport will have entrance stamped by the passport authorities back home.

This is dependant on the country and it's also a completely separate issue to the one that is being discussed.

What's being questioned is stamps on passports. This will not cause any issues for CIC when stamping the passports with the immigration visa.

Apologies for the confusion JSM...

What I mean is that, if CIC sees that the passport was couriered locally within canada while the passport holder is staying in India, this might be a problem.

As I mentioned, these are my views and I am NOT an authority to decide on this.

What I dont understand is, what is the problem having spouse send her passport from India citing the AOR number?

CIC does not check for exit entry stamps..
All they care for is a valid passport.

I think JSM and iamroth are right . Last year my friend was visiting India with his family & they got passport request . So he brought their passports with him back to canada & submitted it to CIC for stamping. After receiving passport back from CIC he completed his landing first . As during that time I was going back to India during vacation , he gave me his family's passport to take them back to India with a notarized letter of authorization stating that passport holder authorizing "me" to carry their passport -kinds. SO for sure CIC don't mind how they get the passports, as long as they get them.



On the other side sending an Indian passport by post/courier out of your country of residence, it is ILLEGAL. There is a word of caution in the passport which reads," Passport should not be sent out of any country by post. It should be in custody either of the holder or of a person authorized by the holder.
