Hi there - I got my Canadian PR card back in 2012 and it is now going to expire in 2017. While I have met my residency requirements, I moved to the US in the summer of 2015 to live with my husband, who is a Canadian Citizen. With the new regulations, I'm not sure how I can renew my PR card.

I know I have to physically be in Canada to mail my application, which is not an issue. However, do you have to fill in a residential address that is within Canada? If so, how would it work with your residential history showing that you live in the US? Can I file with my US residential address with a mailing address in Canada?

I know I can apply for a TD, but I'll be travelling back quite often and don't really want to spend $500 every time we go back.

Just not sure how I should be applying. If anyone in a similar situation has successfully renewed their card can share their experience/expertise, that would be great.

Thank you in advance!

are you a US citizen? if so, you are not eligible to apply for PR Travel Documents. you can travel to canada on the strength of your us passport. while CBSA prefers you to use a PR card to enter canada, they can certainly find your status with your passport. If you do this, don't be surprised if CBSA gives you a slap on the wrist and tell you to keep your pr card with you (or trigger an investigation into your renewal).

i'm unsure if a canadian residential address is needed for the PR card renewal application. you need to be able to prove you met the residency requirement, so as long as you can prove you lived in canada for 2 out of 5 years, i would suspect having us residential addresses listed is irrelevant.
