Hi Folks,
I am a PR of Canada since February 2008. Last October, I moved to USA with a temporary job. I was in Canada for more than 1100 days which fulfill the residency requirements for both citizenship and PR extension. The citizenship application will take beyond my PR expiration. I would like to renew my PR card so that I can enter to Canada for citizenship test/oath, job interview, etc. I know I can apply for a travel document each time I wish to travel. But a valid PR will make the life a lot easier. My question is: can I apply for the extension of PR from USA?

Thanks in advance.

In the immigration rules, it says that the PR card renewal application must originate from within Canada but yet that it is not reason to deny someone renewal just because they are not in Canada when they apply. It would therefore seem that you could mail your application to a friend or relative in Canada and use their address for correspondance. They are planning on mailing out renewed PR cards too now so you may not even have to show up in Canada to pick it up.

As for citizenship, I hope you already applied before you moved. You must be living in Canada to apply for citizenship but you may leave after you apply.
