Renew visitor visa inside Canada

Hi,

I have a friend who came to Canada as a visitor before COVID-19. Here Visa expires January 2021. Any idea if she can renew her visitor visa without leaving Canada (due to current COVID-19 situation)

Your friend can apply for visitor visa extension before the visa expires. It would be definitely better to call IRCC if you are not sure but they might give you several options for the extension.

If the friend is in Canada they should apply to extend stay as a visitor if planning to extend stay. They only need to apply for a new visa if planning to leave and come back again .

For sure your friend should not overstay the time authorised when first came into the country regardless of COVID so visa expiry date should not be confused with authorised stay date.
