Hi,

My parents PR card is expiring soon. They just arrived after year and half and they are short 90 days. They tried to come in 2020 and beginning of 2021 but couldn't come due to travel restrictions from India. Does anyone knows if we get exemption or if there is any letter to support the scenario. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

No exemptions because as PRs they were always were able to come to Canada. So when they enter Canada before the expiration of their cards, they don’t leave Canada until they meet RO.

They should try to come to Canada before the expiry date or they will need to get a PRTD.

Exemption from what or for what purposes? You seem to be saying that they entered Canada.

As noted, there is no exemption from the residency obligation, but they are in Canada legally, so the answer to what you're asking would seem to be about something else. Without some more details - what issue and what province - no-one can say very much (except that there is no blanket exemption from residency obligation).

As others have said, there are no exemptions.

However there's an easy solution here. If I understand your post correctly, they have returned to Canada. If so, then they simply need to remain in Canada for 2 years without leaving (or however long it takes for them to reach 730 days of residency in Canada within the last 5 years) and then they can successfully renew their PR cards.
