Hello, asking for some help for a dear friend.

My friend came to Canada as a PR on spousal visa in 2019. He got a divorce earlier this year and is now waiting for divorce certificate. He wishes to remarry but he just realized that he won't be able to sponsor his new spouse for few years. How many years is the ban for?

Any genuine help please?

Five years.

Applies to both. You can not sponsor someone if you were sponsored and became a pr in the last 5 years.

The sponsor is the only person who is evaluated for the sponsorship approval. The sponsor will not meet the requirement as a sponsor. So only the sponsor must wait 5 years. The poster said they have not married yet so they are not barred from anything.

Thank you, does it apply to sponsor as well or only to the person who was sponsored?

Thile five year rule only applies to the person who was sponsored. The sponsor is under a 3 year obligation and can't sponsor anyone during that time.

That's incorrect

5 year rule only applied to the person who was sponsored. 3 year rule applies to the sponsor.
