We had no formal engagement party, and our wedding was very small and the ensuing parties were also small and our parents don't know each other very well at all.
My dad met - literally just like a "HI" - my SIL & MIL when he moved us to the US.
My 'mom' (I no longer speak to her) and grandmother met my SIL & MIL after we'd been married 3 years.
They wrote a few years back and forth, MIL & 'mom' but no longer do they.
I think if you give a reason, hopefully it's good.
