I've found out the steps i need to do when i arrive in Toronto on the 5th. I have to work as an Industrial Electrician.
I have found COSTI.ORG that provide the below given services LINK http://costi.org/programs/service_details.php?stype_id=27

  • One-on-one employment consultation
  • Strategic career planning
  • Skills and training identification
  • Support in finding work in related occupation
  • Résumé and portfolio enhancement
  • Group Workshops on networking
  • Language training
  • Foreign Credential Assessment

I think all this is what i will be needing in the initial few days. I hope this organization is a good one and their foreign credential assessment is recognized.

Then i need to go to the addresses provided at end of the page on the below link and they will give me the info on how to go abput getting my license to work as a Industrial Electrician

And you are planning on paying them for these services? Why not check out http://www.cicic.ca/684/Industrial_Electricians.canada?prof=7242 and contact the apprenticeship board of your province directly? They are the ones who handle the licensing exams and they will not charge you for the information, just if you take the exam which you would have to do anyway.

Trades licensing in Canada is provincial but there are so called red seal exams that allow you the right to work in any province.

Leon sir,

I was hoping you would answer.

The link you have given me also takes me to the second link that i have mentioned when i select Ontario on your link page. So yes i will be contacting the provincial licensing authority to get my provincial license.

Yes i have the address of the Red Seal guys located at Brampton and i will be going to them as well to apply for the red seal exam.

I was talking about COSTI as they have written at bottom of each page that there is no fee for the service they provide. Take a look at the bottom of this page
http://www.costi.org/programs/program_details.php?program_id=184

correct me if i am wrong, these immigrant serving organizations offer some services free of cost.

There is another course offered specifically for Industrial Electricians at Humber under the Trades Win Support Program offered by Ontario government( found the link on their website). I think it will help me in getting accustomed to the Ontario rules. I am planning to do this as well( i hope it is free as well)http://www.skillsforchange.org/trades/

Hey,

I think its not run by government.

Check this one out.

http://www.dpcdsb.org/CEC/CNE/Adult+Centres/Brian+J+Fleming+Centre/Coop/Foreign-Trained+Professional+Co-op.htm

This one is good and as your are an Industrial Electrician, you will get good opportunities.

They have a course for Foreign Trained Pro Co Op. Its free and good.

Dear Rocky,

The link you provided above is really good as they get you into a job(altough it's not paid) but give a chance to earn Canadian experience and a reference letter from a Canadian employer. Can you share few more such links as i might need some more options..?

But for COSTI.ORG it is written on their site that it is Funded partly by Government of Ontario and that there is no fee for this service.

please correct if i am wrong...?

I have found couple of others as well who offer such Co-Op courses (although Unpaid) like at Humber, Seneca and the Peel Newcomer organization etc. From this co-op work that i will do, would my resume look more attractive and will it attract employer as then i would have gained Canadian experience. I hope then they don't say that i do not have "PAID CANADIAN EXPERIENCE :p"

Anyone has experience and success with such courses ?
