Have you spoken to a Canadian lawyer about your chances of getting asylum? Is there a reason you are now considering applying for asylum versus going through with your studies? Are you aware of the limitations if you are refused or even approved? Things like not being able to return to your home country for up to 10+ years, your family having difficulty getting approved to get TRVs or study/work permits? If refused travelling or getting permits to other countries is very different. If you study you have much more control over the outcome of your longterm status in Canada. The asylum process is extremely backlogged at the moment so many are waiting up to a year for a work permit and will wait 2+ years for a hearing. Some students are under the false impression that asylum is the easier and faster route to PR which is often not the case. Once you apply there is no going back so please do your research and consult with a lawyer first. If you got approved for a study permit you are unlikely to come from certain countries with high asylum application approval and less complex processing (faster processing) like Afghanistan, Yemen, Venezuela, etc.
