I applied for my RTD (Refugee Travel Document) back in February, but I’m still waiting. I even had to extend my travel plans by a month and pay an extra $300 to change my flight, just in case. At this point, I have no idea if I’ll get it before my next flight—the agents keep saying they don’t even see my application in the system.
Meanwhile, two of my friends who applied in March already got their RTDs within just a month, even though they don’t have any immediate travel plans. It’s frustrating how inconsistent the process is.

I called many times already. They confirmed the application was delivered (using a Canada post tracking number I shared with them). However, they don’t see it on the system and they kept telling me they already sent a message internally to the processing team which never responded to them. And the agents say they can’t send another message to the team internally having sent one already.
I think you should either send in a fax or send in another application because they’re not processing it until they have it in their system. And if it hasn’t gotten in their system since 2 months, then maybe they didn’t receive it in their office or smth. Did you send it by post or by courier? I’ve heard applications that are send to by post tend to take a long time to get to their office while courier applications are handed to them directly. My application was delivered to them on the 9th of April and according to them was in their system on the 16th of April
Thank you for the insights. Perhaps I should try faxing them first and if it doesn’t help I may need to reapply using couriers. I’m not sure what fax number I should use, but I will figure it out. Thank you again.
I submitted an application on March 17th, I received my RTD on April 21st. Non urgent.

Hello, I submitted RTD for my dad and called IRCC today they received the application and now in progress.

Alright! I called them and they said that your 20 business days will finish around 17th May so if you don’t receive a decision or update by then, call us again but it’s still in process. Can other people let me know how long it’s taking? I have to travel somewhere urgently and I want to know the average processing time nowadays based on your experiences
No idea. I sent a webform two weeks after a mailed the application to ask them if they received my application and they got back to me the same day to let me know they were currently processing the application.
