Thank you very much Canuck78 and Scylla. your input is very valuable to us during this period. We are still waiting for IRCC to make a decision on the PGP as we are approaching the visa as well as passport expiry. Many people from the same country received decisions on Asylum with no hearing in less than 7 months.
At this point we just waiting and keeping ircc informed. As you mentioned and due to the war the entire family scattered in differnt places with including small children and this adds tremendous mental stress to the parents and the family as they can not come to Canada to see them nor the parents can travel to see them with passport expiry and visa restrictions to enter any country at this time.. Fingers crossed and hope is still there..
If they apply for asylum expect it to be much more difficult for your extended family to be approved for a form of temporary permit from visitor to student and work permits. Some may be able get protected person status in 7 months without a hearing but there are plenty others who have waited much longer and had to have a short hearing. Even if approved relative quickly as protected people it is now taking 2+ years to get PR so it isn’t actually faster. Your parents also had the ability to apply for a WP even if they had no plans on working while they waited for their PGP application or remain on a supervisa which is now allows a 5-7 year visit. It’s unclear if they actually went ahead with the asylum claim but they had so many better options that wouldn’t have the same longterm consequences as claiming asylum. Even when asylum claims are approved they come with significant impacts for the applicants and their extended families. It should always be the last option if you have other immigration
options. Most were also much less stressful than asylum claims as well and only required paperwork and waiting.

They didn't apply for asylum. We decided to wait but the most top concern still remains which the passport expiry and the visa. Along with separation from other family members. With ircc very inconsistent processing timing it is very hard to draw any expectations other than to live with the stress. They already gone through hell running from city to another to make it here and definitely that come with very traumatizing experience.. Yes super visa allows 5-7 years but with a valid passport and the visa was issued relative to that years ago.
